त्वां ह्य॑ग्ने॒ सद॒मित्स॑म॒न्यवो॑ दे॒वासो॑ दे॒वम॑र॒तिं न्ये॑रि॒र इति॒ क्रत्वा॑ न्येरि॒रे । अम॑र्त्यं यजत॒ मर्त्ये॒ष्वा दे॒वमादे॑वं जनत॒ प्रचे॑तसं॒ विश्व॒मादे॑वं जनत॒ प्रचे॑तसम् ॥ (१)

हे शीघ्रगामी अग्नि देव! बराबर वालों से स्पर्धा करते हुए इंद्रादि देव तुम्हें युद्ध के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं एवं यजमान यज्ञ में देवों को बुलाने के लिए प्रेरणा देते हैं. हे यज्ञ योग्य, मरणरहित, तेजस्वी एवं उत्तम-ज्ञान वाले अग्नि! देवों ने तुम्हें यज्ञकर्ता मानवों में आने एवं विभिन्न यज्ञों में उपस्थित रहने के लिए जन्म दिया है. EN English Translation
O God of agni soon! Indari Dev inspires you to fight and inspires you to call the devas to the host yagna. O sacrificial, deathless, bright and well-known agni! The gods have given birth to you to come among the sacrificial humans and be present in various yagnas. (1)
स भ्रात॑रं॒ वरु॑णमग्न॒ आ व॑वृत्स्व दे॒वाँ अच्छा॑ सुम॒ती य॒ज्ञव॑नसं॒ ज्येष्ठं॑ य॒ज्ञव॑नसम् । ऋ॒तावा॑नमादि॒त्यं च॑र्षणी॒धृतं॒ राजा॑नं चर्षणी॒धृत॑म् ॥ (२)

हे अग्नि! तुम अपने भाई, हवि द्वारा सेवा योग्य, यज्ञ का भाग करने वाले, अतिशय प्रशंसनीय, जलों के स्वामी, अदिति के पुत्र, जल देकर मनुष्यों को धारण करने वाले, शोभनबुद्धि संपन्न एवं राजमान वरुणदेव को स्तोताओं के प्रति अभिमुख करो. (२)
EN English Translation
O agni! You should like your brother, worthy of service by Havi, a part of the yagna, the most praiseworthy, the lord of the waters, the son of Aditi, the man who possesses man by giving water, the well-to-do and the reigning Varundev, to the stotas. (2)
सखे॒ सखा॑यम॒भ्या व॑वृत्स्वा॒शुं न च॒क्रं रथ्ये॑व॒ रंह्या॒स्मभ्यं॑ दस्म॒ रंह्या॑ । अग्ने॑ मृळी॒कं वरु॑णे॒ सचा॑ विदो म॒रुत्सु॑ वि॒श्वभा॑नुषु । तो॒काय॑ तु॒जे शु॑शुचान॒ शं कृ॑ध्य॒स्मभ्यं॑ दस्म॒ शं कृ॑धि ॥ (३)

हे दर्शनीय एवं सखा अग्नि! तुम अपने मित्र वरुण को उसी प्रकार हमारी ओर अभिमुख करो, जैसे चलने में कुशल एवं रथ में जुते हुए घोड़े तेज चलने वाले पहिए को लक्ष्य की आर ले जाते हैं. तुमने वरुण एवं मरुतों की सहायता से सुखकारक हव्य पाया है. हे तेजस्वी अग्नि! हमारे पुत्र-पौत्रों को सुखी करो एवं हमारा कल्याण करो. (३)
EN English Translation
O magnificent and beautiful agni! You should turn your friend Varuna towards us in the same way as the skillful in walking and the horses in the chariot carry the fast-moving wheel to the target' r. You have found a pleasing pleasure with the help of Varuna and Maruts. O glorious agni! Please our sons and grandsons and do us well. (3)
त्वं नो॑ अग्ने॒ वरु॑णस्य वि॒द्वान्दे॒वस्य॒ हेळोऽव॑ यासिसीष्ठाः । यजि॑ष्ठो॒ वह्नि॑तमः॒ शोशु॑चानो॒ विश्वा॒ द्वेषां॑सि॒ प्र मु॑मुग्ध्य॒स्मत् ॥ (४)

हे उपायों को जानने वाले अग्नि! तुम हमारे ऊपर होने वाला वरुणदेव का क्रोध दूर करो. हे सबसे अधिक यज्ञकर्ता, हव्य के अतिशय वहन करने वाले एवं दीप्तिशाली अग्नि! सभी पापों को हमसे दूर करो. (४)
EN English Translation
O agni that knows the remedies! You remove varundev's anger on us. O the most sacrificial, the most powerful and the radiant agni of the lord! Take away all sins from us. (4)
स त्वं नो॑ अग्नेऽव॒मो भ॑वो॒ती नेदि॑ष्ठो अ॒स्या उ॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टौ । अव॑ यक्ष्व नो॒ वरु॑णं॒ ररा॑णो वी॒हि मृ॑ळी॒कं सु॒हवो॑ न एधि ॥ (५)

हे अग्नि! तुम रक्षा करने के लिए एवं उषा की समाप्ति पर यज्ञकर्म के निमित्त हमारे अत्यंत समीप आओ. हे हमारे दिए हुए हव्य से प्रसन्न अग्नि! तुम वरुण द्वारा किए जाने वाले रोगों का नाश करो एवं यह सुखदायक हवि खाओ. हे हमारे द्वारा भली प्रकार बुलाए गए अग्नि! हमारे पास आओ. (५)
EN English Translation
O agni! You come very close to us to protect and for the sake of yajnakarma at the end of Usha. O agni pleased with our promise! You must eliminate the diseases caused by Varuna and eat this soothing havi. O agni called by us! Come to us. (5)
अ॒स्य श्रेष्ठा॑ सु॒भग॑स्य सं॒दृग्दे॒वस्य॑ चि॒त्रत॑मा॒ मर्त्ये॑षु । शुचि॑ घृ॒तं न त॒प्तमघ्न्या॑याः स्पा॒र्हा दे॒वस्य॑ मं॒हने॑व धे॒नोः ॥ (६)

परम सेवनीय अग्नि की उत्तम कृपा मनुष्यों में उसी प्रकार नितांत पूज्य है, जिस प्रकार दूध की कामना करने वाले देवों के लिए गाय का शुद्ध, तरल एवं गरम दूध अथवा गाय मांगने वाले मनुष्य के लिए दुधारू गाय. (६)
EN English Translation
The best grace of the most edible agni is revered in humans in the same way as the pure, liquid and hot milk of the cow for the gods who wish for milk, or the milch cow for the man who asks for cow. (6)
त्रिर॑स्य॒ ता प॑र॒मा स॑न्ति स॒त्या स्पा॒र्हा दे॒वस्य॒ जनि॑मान्य॒ग्नेः । अ॒न॒न्ते अ॒न्तः परि॑वीत॒ आगा॒च्छुचिः॑ शु॒क्रो अ॒र्यो रोरु॑चानः ॥ (७)

अग्नि देव के तीन प्रसिद्ध एवं वास्तविक जन्मों (अग्नि, वायु, सूर्य) की सभी अभिलाषा करते हैं. आकाश में अपने तेज से घिरे हुए सबके शोधक, तेजस्वी, अनंत दीप्ति से युक्त एवं सबके स्वामी अग्नि हमारे यज्ञ में आवें. (७)
EN English Translation
All desire the three famous and real births of Agni Dev (Fire, Air, Sun). May agni, the purifier of all surrounded by his glory in the sky, with bright, infinite radiance and the lord of all, come to our yagya. (7)
स दू॒तो विश्वेद॒भि व॑ष्टि॒ सद्मा॒ होता॒ हिर॑ण्यरथो॒ रंसु॑जिह्वः । रो॒हिद॑श्वो वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॒ सदा॑ र॒ण्वः पि॑तु॒मती॑व सं॒सत् ॥ (८)

देवों के दूत, सुनहरे रथ वाले एवं सुंदर ज्वालाओं से युक्त अग्नि सभी यज्ञस्थलों में जाने की अभिलाषा करते हैं. लाल घोड़ों वाले, परम सुंदर एवं कांतिशाली अन्न से पूर्ण वे घर के समान सदा रमणीय लगते हैं. (८)
EN English Translation
The messengers of the gods, the golden chariots and the agni with beautiful flames all wish to go to the yagnasthalas. Full of red-horse, the most beautiful and gritty food, they always look as delightful as a home. (8)
स चे॑तय॒न्मनु॑षो य॒ज्ञब॑न्धुः॒ प्र तं म॒ह्या र॑श॒नया॑ नयन्ति । स क्षे॑त्यस्य॒ दुर्या॑सु॒ साध॑न्दे॒वो मर्त॑स्य सधनि॒त्वमा॑प ॥ (९)

यज्ञ के बंधु अग्नि यज्ञकार्य में लगे हुए मनुष्यों को जानते हैं. अध्वर्युगण स्तुति रूपी विशाल रस्सी से अग्नि को उत्तर-वेदी में लाते हैं. वे अभिलाषाएं पूरी करते हुए यजमान के घर में रहते हैं एवं उसके साथ एकरूपता धारण कर लेते हैं. (९)
EN English Translation
The brothers of the yajna know the human beings engaged in the work of agni yajna. The adhwaryugans bring the agni to the north-altar with a huge rope in praise. They live in the host's house while fulfilling their desires and take uniformity with him. (9)
स तू नो॑ अ॒ग्निर्न॑यतु प्रजा॒नन्नच्छा॒ रत्नं॑ दे॒वभ॑क्तं॒ यद॑स्य । धि॒या यद्विश्वे॑ अ॒मृता॒ अकृ॑ण्व॒न्द्यौष्पि॒ता ज॑नि॒ता स॒त्यमु॑क्षन् ॥ (१०)

सब जानते हुए अग्नि अपने उत्तम रत्न को शीघ्र हमारे सामने लावें. मरणरहित सब देवों ने यज्ञकर्म के हेतु अग्नि को बनाया है. आकाश उसका जनक तथा पालनकर्ता है एवं अध्वर्यु घी की आहुतियों से उसे सींचते हैं. (१०)
EN English Translation
All knowing that agni should bring its perfect gemstone before us soon. All the godless of death have created agni for the yagnakarma. Akash is its father and nurturer and the adhwaryu irrigates it with the offerings of ghee. (10)
स जा॑यत प्रथ॒मः प॒स्त्या॑सु म॒हो बु॒ध्ने रज॑सो अ॒स्य योनौ॑ । अ॒पाद॑शी॒र्षा गु॒हमा॑नो॒ अन्ता॒योयु॑वानो वृष॒भस्य॑ नी॒ळे ॥ (११)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
शरेष्ठ अग्नि यजमानों के घरों एवं विशाल आकाश की मूलरूपी पृथ्वी में उत्पन्न होते हैं. बिना पैर और सिर वाले अग्नि अपने शरीर को छिपाकर बादल के घर अर्थात् आकाश में धुएं का रूप धारण करते हैं. (११)
EN English Translation
The sharastha agnis originate in the houses of hosts and in the original earth of the vast sky. Fires without legs and heads hide their bodies and take the form of smoke in the house of the cloud i.e. in the sky. (11)
प्र शर्ध॑ आर्त प्रथ॒मं वि॑प॒न्याँ ऋ॒तस्य॒ योना॑ वृष॒भस्य॑ नी॒ळे । स्पा॒र्हो युवा॑ वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॑ स॒प्त प्रि॒यासो॑ऽजनयन्त॒ वृष्णे॑ ॥ (१२)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! स्तुतिसंपन्न जल के उत्पत्ति स्थान एवं बादलों के घोंसले के तुल्य आकाश में बिजली के रूप में वर्तमान तुम्हारे पास तेज सबसे पहले पहुंचता है. सात प्रिय होता अभिलाषा करने योग्य, अत्यंत सुंदर एवं दीप्तिसंपन्न अग्नि को लक्ष्य करके स्तुति करते हैं. (१२)
EN English Translation
O agni! The present comes to you first as lightning in the sky like the place of origin of the praise-rich waters and the nest of clouds. The seven beloved are praiseworthy, very beautiful and luminous by aiming at the glorious agni. (12)
अ॒स्माक॒मत्र॑ पि॒तरो॑ मनु॒ष्या॑ अ॒भि प्र से॑दुरृ॒तमा॑शुषा॒णाः । अश्म॑व्रजाः सु॒दुघा॑ व॒व्रे अ॒न्तरुदु॒स्रा आ॑जन्नु॒षसो॑ हुवा॒नाः ॥ (१३)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
इस लोक में हमारे पूर्वज अंगिरा यज्ञ करते हुए अग्नि के सामने गए थे. उन्होंने उषाओं का आह्वान करते हुए पर्वत की गुफा में वर्तमान, अंधकार में स्थित एवं पणियों द्वारा चुराई गई दुधारू गायों को प्राप्त किया था. (१३)
EN English Translation
In this folk, our ancestors went in front of the agni while performing the Angira Yajna. He had found the milch cows in the cave of the mountain, present in the cave of the mountain, located in darkness and stolen by the pangs. (13)
ते म॑र्मृजत ददृ॒वांसो॒ अद्रिं॒ तदे॑षाम॒न्ये अ॒भितो॒ वि वो॑चन् । प॒श्वय॑न्त्रासो अ॒भि का॒रम॑र्चन्वि॒दन्त॒ ज्योति॑श्चकृ॒पन्त॑ धी॒भिः ॥ (१४)

उन अंगिराओं ने गायों को छिपाने वाले पर्वत को तोड़ते हुए अग्नि की सेवा की. अन्य ऋषियों ने उनका यह कार्य सभी जगह कहा. पशुओं के निकलने के उपाय जानने हेतु अंगिराओं ने अभिमत फल देने वाले अग्नि की स्तुति करते हुए प्रकाश पाया एवं अपने बुद्धिबल से यज्ञ किया. (१४)
EN English Translation
The Angiras served the agni by breaking the mountain that hid the cows, and the other sages said their work all over the place. In order to know the ways of getting out of the animals, the Angiras found light praising the agni that gave the fruits of the opinion and performed yajna with their wisdom. (14)
ते ग॑व्य॒ता मन॑सा दृ॒ध्रमु॒ब्धं गा ये॑मा॒नं परि॒ षन्त॒मद्रि॑म् । दृ॒ळ्हं नरो॒ वच॑सा॒ दैव्ये॑न व्र॒जं गोम॑न्तमु॒शिजो॒ वि व॑व्रुः ॥ (१५)

यज्ञको के नेता एवं अग्नि की कामना करने वाले अंगिराओं ने गायों को पाने के विचार से दृढ़बंद, गायों को रोकने वाले, चारों ओर फैले हुए, कठोर, गायों से युक्त एवं गोशाला के समान पर्वत को अग्नि संबंधी स्तुतियों से उद्घाटित कर दिया था. (१५)
EN English Translation
The leaders of the yajnako and the angiras who wished for agni had, with the idea of getting the cows, the protectors of the cows, spread all around, the hard, the cows-like and the goshala-like mountain was inaugurated with agni praises. (15)
ते म॑न्वत प्रथ॒मं नाम॑ धे॒नोस्त्रिः स॒प्त मा॒तुः प॑र॒माणि॑ विन्दन् । तज्जा॑न॒तीर॒भ्य॑नूषत॒ व्रा आ॒विर्भु॑वदरु॒णीर्य॒शसा॒ गोः ॥ (१६)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
हे अग्नि! स्तुति करने वाले अंगिराओं ने माता वाणी से संबंधित एवं स्तुति में सहायक शब्दों को पहले जाना. बाद में स्तुतिसंबंधी इक्कीस छंदों का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया. इसके पश्चात् सबको जानती हुई उषा की स्तुति की. फिर सूर्य के तेज से अरुण वर्ण की उषा उत्पन्न हुई. (१६)
EN English Translation
O agni! The praise-giving angels first learned the words related to mother voice and helpful in praise. Later gained knowledge of the twenty-one verses of praise. After this, he praised Usha, who knew everyone, and then from the brightness of the sun, usha of the golden golden was born. (16)
नेश॒त्तमो॒ दुधि॑तं॒ रोच॑त॒ द्यौरुद्दे॒व्या उ॒षसो॑ भा॒नुर॑र्त । आ सूर्यो॑ बृह॒तस्ति॑ष्ठ॒दज्रा॑ँ ऋ॒जु मर्ते॑षु वृजि॒ना च॒ पश्य॑न् ॥ (१७)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
उषा की प्रेरणा से रात का अंधकार नष्ट हुआ एवं आकाश चमकने लगा. इसके बाद उषा का प्रकाश उत्पन्न हुआ. मनुष्यों के सत् एवं असत् कमो को देखते हुए सूर्य महान् पर्वत के ऊपर पहुंच गए. (१७)
EN English Translation
With usha's inspiration, the darkness of the night was destroyed and the sky began to shine. After this, usha's light was born. Seeing the truth and miscovernance of human beings, the sun reached the great mountain. (17)
आदित्प॒श्चा बु॑बुधा॒ना व्य॑ख्य॒न्नादिद्रत्नं॑ धारयन्त॒ द्युभ॑क्तम् । विश्वे॒ विश्वा॑सु॒ दुर्या॑सु दे॒वा मित्र॑ धि॒ये व॑रुण स॒त्यम॑स्तु ॥ (१८)

अंगिराओं ने सूर्योदय के बाद पणियों द्वारा चुराई गई गायों को जानते हुए पीछे से उन गायों को भली-भांति देखा एवं देवों द्वारा दिए गए गोरूप धन को पाया. अंगिराओं के सभी घरों में सभी देव पधारे. हे मित्रतुल्य एवं वरुण के रोगों का नाश करने वाले अग्नि! यजमान को सत्य फल प्राप्त हो. (१८)
EN English Translation
The Angiras, knowing the cows stolen by the pangs after sunrise, looked at the cows from behind and found the gorup wealth given by the devas. All the gods came to all the houses of the Angiras. O enemies and agnis that destroy the diseases of Varuna! May the host bear the truth. (18)
अच्छा॑ वोचेय शुशुचा॒नम॒ग्निं होता॑रं वि॒श्वभ॑रसं॒ यजि॑ष्ठम् । शुच्यूधो॑ अतृण॒न्न गवा॒मन्धो॒ न पू॒तं परि॑षिक्तमं॒शोः ॥ (१९)
हि हिन्दी अनुवाद
अत्यंत दीप्तिशाली, देवों को बुलाने वाले, विश्व के पोषक एवं सबसे अधिक यज्ञकर्ता अग्नि को लक्ष्य करके हम स्तुतियां बोलते हैं. यजमान तुम्हारी आहुति के निमित्त गायों के थनों से पवित्र दूध का दोहन एवं सोमरसरूपी अन्न को पवित्र करते हुए घर में क्षेपण न करके केवल स्तुति ही बोलते हैं. (१९)
EN English Translation
We speak praises by aiming at the most radiant, the summoners of the gods, the nurturer of the world and the most sacrificing agni. Hosts speak only praise for your sacrifice by exploiting holy milk from the trunks of cows and not throwing it into the house sanctifying the food of somras. (19)
विश्वे॑षा॒मदि॑तिर्य॒ज्ञिया॑नां॒ विश्वे॑षा॒मति॑थि॒र्मानु॑षाणाम् । अ॒ग्निर्दे॒वाना॒मव॑ आवृणा॒नः सु॑मृळी॒को भ॑वतु जा॒तवे॑दाः ॥ (२०)

अग्नि सभी यज्ञ योग्य देवों की माता के समान पोषक एवं सभी मनुष्यों के लिए अतिथि के समान पूज्य हैं. स्तोताओं का अन्न भक्षण करने वाले एवं सर्वज्ञ अग्नि सुखदाता हों. (२०)
EN English Translation
Agni is as nutritious as the mother of all the sacrificial deities and revered as a guest to all human beings. Let the psalms be the food eaters and the omniscient agni givers. (20)
