Description

The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad is the largest and one of the most important Upanishads. It belongs to the Shukla Yajurveda and contains the profound dialogues of sage Yajnavalkya with his wife Maitreyi and King Janaka.

It contains the mahavakya "Aham Brahmasmi" (I am Brahman) and explores the nature of the self, consciousness, dreams, deep sleep, and the ultimate reality. The famous "Neti Neti" (Not this, Not this) method of understanding Brahman originates here.

This text has been extensively commented upon by Adi Shankaracharya and is considered essential reading for students of Vedanta.
